Beginner golf clinics: small groups with set places
Beginner golf clinics work best in small groups. How golf instructors can set places per clinic, run a multi-week course and handle weather and low numbers.
6 min read
Run beginner clinics as a separate service with a fixed number of places per slot, set by how many golfers you can coach at once and how many bays or clubs you have. Each golfer books one place, and when the clinic is full it disappears from your page. For a course over several weeks, choose between one booking for the whole course, made on the first session, and one booking per session. Either way, say clearly in the description what's included, what to bring and what happens if it rains.
Clinic formats
| Service | Example slot | Places | Example price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taster clinic | 60 min | 6 | €20 |
| Beginner course, 4 weeks (booking = session 1) | 90 min | 6 | €150 |
| Beginner clinic, single session | 90 min | 6 | €40 |
| Short game clinic | 90 min | 5 | €40 |
| Junior clinic | 60 min | 8 | €15 |
| On-course clinic, 3 holes | 2 h | 4 | €50 |
Formats, places and prices are examples. On Book, each service has its own name, description and price, and each slot has its own capacity. A slot sits within one day, so a four-week course can't be a single slot: either the booking of the first session stands for the whole course, or golfers book each session.
Setting the number of places
For beginners, the limit is what you can watch and correct at once. Other limits:
- the number of range bays the club gives you for the clinic;
- the number of loan clubs or sets you have for golfers without their own;
- the space on the practice green for short game drills;
- for on-course clinics, the size of a group the club accepts on the course.
Set the capacity of each slot to the lowest of these. Your page doesn't show how many places are left; it only shows clinics that still have room.
A course over several weeks
A four-week beginner course builds a group that learns together. The simplest set-up: create a "Beginner course" service and one slot on the date of the first session. In the description, list all the dates, for example "four Saturdays, 10:00–11:30, from 3 to 24 May". Booking that slot means joining the whole course.
Golfers only receive a confirmation for the first date, with its calendar file. If you want them to have every date in their calendar, create the later sessions as slots too and book each golfer into them yourself from your calendar, entering their email.
Drop-in clinics
For single clinics that golfers can join any week, create one slot and repeat it on the chosen weekday until the end of the season. Each week is booked on its own, and a full week doesn't stop anyone from booking the next one.
Taster clinics as a first step
A short, low-priced taster clinic lets people try golf before committing to a course. Open tasters a few weeks before each course starts, and say in the description when the next course begins, so golfers who enjoyed the taster can book it. At the end of a taster, you can also book interested golfers straight into the course yourself from your calendar, while they're still on the range. Keep tasters and courses as separate services, so golfers never book one thinking it's the other.
What beginners should write
The booking form asks for first name, last name, email and phone, plus an optional note. Ask beginners to say whether they need loan clubs, whether they're left or right-handed, and whether they've ever held a club. For junior clinics, ask parents to book in their own name, with the child's first name and age in the note, and to make one booking per child.
Weather and clinics with too few golfers
Book has no minimum number of participants. If a clinic doesn't have enough golfers to run, or the weather makes it unsafe, cancel it from your bookings list and contact each golfer yourself: Book doesn't email them about cancellations or changes. Say in the description what you do in those cases, such as moving to the next week or an indoor studio.
Book costs €5/month, everything included: unlimited bookings and services, no commission, no contract. Payments for courses and clinics stay with you or the club.
