Mechanics: booking mobile and workshop services side by side

How mechanics, valeters and tyre fitters can offer mobile visits and workshop slots on one booking page: separate services, travel time, zones and pricing.

Offer mobile visits and workshop appointments as separate services, each with its own slots, length, price and description. Drivers choose where the work happens when they book, you know in advance whether you'll be on the road or in the bay, and you can plan travel time around mobile jobs without blocking your workshop. Group mobile visits by area on given days, and keep longer or heavier jobs, the ones that need a lift or special tools, for the workshop.

Why separate the two

A tyre change on a driveway and a tyre change in your workshop aren't the same job: one includes driving there, setting up and working outdoors, the other uses your machines and takes less time. If both share one service, you can't price the difference or plan the travel. Two services make the choice explicit for the driver and keep your days predictable.

Setting up the services

On Book, each service has a name, a price and an optional description shown on your public page, and each slot belongs to one service, sits within one day and has its own capacity. Name each service by the job and the place, so drivers see at a glance what they're choosing.

ServiceExample slotExample price
Oil and filter change, at your home1 h 30€95
Oil and filter change, at the workshop1 h€75
Tyre fitting, mobile1 h€40
Full valet, at the unit3 h€120

Durations and prices are examples: set your own. Mobile slots include the time on site, not the drive; plan travel in the gaps between slots.

Mobile days and workshop days

Mixing a driveway job across town with workshop bookings in the same morning costs you time on the road. A simpler rhythm is to open mobile slots on some weekdays and workshop slots on others, or mobile in the morning and workshop in the afternoon. On Book, slots repeat each week on the weekdays you choose until an end date, so a fixed pattern takes a few minutes to set up.

Zones and travel time

Say in each mobile service description which towns or postcodes you cover, and whether a supplement applies further out. If you work different areas on different days, you can create one mobile service per area, such as "Mobile service, north side", and open its slots only on the days you're there. Leave enough time between mobile slots for the longest drive within that area.

What to ask before a mobile visit

The booking form takes first name, last name, email and phone, plus an optional note that reaches you in the new booking email and appears in the client's calendar file. Ask in the description for:

  • the vehicle make, model and registration;
  • the address, and whether there's off-street space to work;
  • access to power or water if the job needs it;
  • where the keys will be if the driver is at work;
  • the problem or job in a few words.

Say in the description what you can't do on site, such as jobs that need a lift, so drivers book the workshop instead.

When a mobile job needs the workshop

Sometimes a visit shows the job can't be finished on the driveway. Agree with the driver on the spot, create a workshop slot and book them in yourself from your calendar. First and last name are required, email and phone optional; enter the driver's email so they receive a confirmation with a calendar file for the new date. Rescheduling works across services, so you can also move an existing mobile booking to a workshop slot from your bookings list.

Bad weather and cancellations

Rain or frost can make outdoor work impossible. Say in the mobile service description what happens then: you move the visit, or the driver can bring the car to the workshop on the same day. When you move a booking, tell the driver yourself, since Book doesn't email clients about changes, and drivers can't move bookings online: they contact you. Your bookings sync with Google, iPhone or Mac calendars, so mobile and workshop jobs sit in one view.

Book costs €5/month, everything included: unlimited services and bookings, no commission, no contract.

Should mobile and workshop jobs be separate services?

How do I plan travel between mobile visits?
Leave gaps between mobile slots for the longest drive in the area you cover that day.
Can I cover different areas on different days?
Yes. Create one mobile service per area and open its slots only on the days you're there.
What if a mobile job has to finish at the workshop?
