Private boxing pad sessions: length, price and timing

One-to-one pad work is intense and evening slots are few. How boxing coaches can set session lengths, protect their evenings and book regulars in.

6 min read

Offer private pad sessions in two or three fixed lengths, each as its own service, and open them at the times people who work can come: early morning, lunchtime and evening. Because evening slots are few and pad work is hard on your shoulders, don't stack them back to back all night. Give your regulars a fixed weekly time, booked in advance from your calendar, and leave the remaining slots open for new clients to book online.

Choose a few fixed lengths

Holding pads is physical work for the coach as well as the client. A few clear formats are easier to plan than open-ended sessions:

ServiceExample slotExample priceFor
Pad session, 30 min30 min€30Lunchtime, fitness boxers, short bursts
Private session, 45 min45 min€40Technique and pads with a warm-up
Private session, 60 min60 min€50Full session: technique, pads, conditioning
Fight preparation75 min€60Amateur fighters before a bout, by arrangement
Duo pad session60 min€70Two people alternating on pads

Lengths and prices are examples: set your own. On Book, each service has a name, a price and an optional description shown on your public page, and each slot belongs to one service with its own start and end. A client who picks the 30-minute session only sees 30-minute slots.

Protect your evenings and your shoulders

Evenings are when people who work can train, and there are only so many hours in them. Plan them on purpose:

  • decide how many private sessions you can hold pads for in one evening without your technique or attention dropping;
  • leave a short gap between sessions to drink, reset the space and write a note on the last client;
  • if you also teach group classes, don't put a private session right before one;
  • move shorter sessions to lunchtime and early morning, which frees evenings for longer ones.

Create your slots on the weekdays you choose and repeat them each week until an end date. Book shows slot times in your time zone and syncs your bookings to Google, iPhone or Mac calendars, so your private sessions appear next to everything else in the calendar you already use.

Regulars on fixed times

Clients who train with you every week may want the same time each week. Give it to them: book their slot for the coming weeks yourself from your calendar. First and last name are required, email and phone optional, and you can add a note such as "southpaw, working on the jab". If you add their email, they receive a confirmation email and a calendar file for each session. A booked slot with one place is full and no longer shows on your public page, so nobody else can take it.

Book the next block before the current one ends, so regulars don't lose their time to a new client.

New clients

New clients book online, without creating an account. In the description, say what to bring (wraps, gloves if they have them, water) and ask in the booking note for their experience and any injuries. The first session can be a 45- or 60-minute one, so you have time to assess their level.

Fight preparation

Amateur fighters preparing for a bout may want more sessions in the weeks before. Keep the "Fight preparation" service for clients you already know, say so in its description, and book those sessions yourself once you've agreed on a plan. Ask for the bout date in the note, and ease off in the last days before it.

Cancellations

Clients can't move bookings online: they contact you, and you move or cancel from your bookings list. Book doesn't email clients about changes, so confirm new times yourself. Say in the description how much notice you need, and how late cancellations are handled. Book doesn't take payments, so explain how you're paid. Book costs €5/month, everything included: unlimited services and bookings, no commission, no contract.

How long should a private boxing session be?
Pick a few fixed lengths, such as 30, 45 and 60 minutes, and make each its own service so clients book the right slot.
How do I keep a regular's weekly time?
Book their slot for the coming weeks from your calendar; once booked, it no longer shows on your public page.
Can two people share a pad session?
Yes. Create a duo service; one person books and writes the partner's name in the note.
Can clients reschedule online?
No. They contact you and you move the booking from your list, then confirm the new time yourself.
Can clients pay when they book?
No. Book doesn't take payments, so explain in the description how you're paid.
