Planning a multi-day tiling job, from quote visit to grout

Quote visit, prep, tiling, grouting: how tile fitters can plan a bathroom or floor over several days, block each day for one client and keep them informed.

7 min read

Let customers book the quote visit online, then plan the job itself day by day: after the quote is accepted, create one slot for each working day on site and book the customer into all of them from your calendar. Each day then appears in your calendar and in the customer's, with the address and what's planned. Build the waiting times into the plan, such as screed drying, waterproofing and adhesive curing before grouting, so the customer knows why nobody is on site on some days.

Why tiling jobs don't fit in one slot

A splashback can be done in a day. A full bathroom, a kitchen floor or a large living area can't. The work comes in stages: stripping old tiles, preparing and levelling the surface, waterproofing a shower area, setting out, tiling, cutting around fittings, then grouting and sealing. Some stages need drying time before the next one can start, and nobody can speed that up by working harder.

On Book, a slot sits within one day, with its own start and end, and belongs to one service. A job over several days is therefore several slots, one per day, all booked for the same customer. That's also how you'd describe it to them: which days you're on site, and which days the room is drying.

Step 1: the quote visit, booked online

The quote visit is the part customers can book themselves. Create a service for it with a short slot, and write in the description what you'll check (surface, dimensions, access, existing tiles) and what the customer should prepare: the tiles they've chosen or a budget, photos, and whether they want you to supply materials.

ServiceExample slotExample price
Quote visit, bathroom or kitchen45 min€40
Quote visit, floor over 30 m²1 h€50
Tiling day (booked by you after quote)Full day€350
Grouting and sealing visitHalf day€180

Lengths and prices are examples: set your own. The public form asks for first name, last name, email and phone, plus an optional note: ask for the address, the room, rough dimensions and access details (floor, lift, parking). You read it in your new-booking email.

Step 2: blocking the job days

Once the quote is accepted, agree the start date with the customer and plan the days on site. Then:

  1. Create the slots: one per working day, under a service such as "Tiling day". Keep the drying days free, or use them for small jobs elsewhere.
  2. Book the customer into each one straight away from your calendar: first and last name are required, email and phone optional. With one place per slot, each booked day is full and never offered to someone else.
  3. Write what's planned in the note of each booking you create: "day 1: strip and prep", "day 3: wall tiles". With the customer's email, they get a confirmation with a calendar file for each day, and the note is in the calendar event.

If you don't want tiling days to show on your public page even for a moment, book the customer in as soon as you've created the slots: a full slot is hidden from your page.

A typical bathroom plan

DayOn siteCustomer's side
1Strip old tiles, check the wallsRoom emptied, water off if needed
2Level, waterproof the shower areaRoom out of use
3No work: dryingRoom out of use
4–5Wall and floor tilingRoom out of use
6Grouting and sealingShower usable after curing time

This is an example plan: stages and drying times depend on the products used and the room.

When a day moves

Tiles arrive late, a wall needs more work than expected, the plumber hasn't finished. When a day moves, open that booking in your bookings list and reschedule it to another slot, or cancel it and create a new one. Book doesn't email the customer about changes, so call or text them with the new plan. Customers can't move bookings online either: they contact you.

Book doesn't take payments, so say in the quote how deposits and stage payments work. Book costs €5/month, everything included: unlimited services and bookings, no commission, no contract.

Can a customer book several tiling days online?
Keep online booking for the quote visit. After the quote, you create the job days and book the customer into each one yourself.
Can one slot cover several days?
No, a slot sits within one day. A five-day job is five slots, booked for the same customer.
How do I show drying days?
Leave them without a slot for that customer and explain them in your plan; you can use them for small jobs elsewhere.
Does the customer get the plan?
With their email, they get a confirmation and calendar file for each day; the note you wrote is in the calendar event.
What if the job slips by a day?
Reschedule the booking from your list and tell the customer yourself; Book doesn't email them about changes.
