Group sophrology sessions: places, rooms and regulars

How sophrologists can run group relaxation sessions: small groups with set places, a room that fits, weekly regulars, drop-in places and sessions for companies.

6 min read

Run group sophrology as sessions with a set number of places that matches your room and the attention you want to give each person, for example between six and twelve. Offer weekly groups on the same day and time so participants can build the habit, keep room for newcomers, and say clearly in the description what to wear, what to bring and whether the group suits beginners. Company sessions can be planned the same way, on site or in your room.

How many places per group

Sophrology in a group relies on calm, on guided breathing and movement, and on a short exchange at the end. Too many people and the exchange disappears; too few and the group loses its energy. Start from the room: how many people can sit or stand comfortably with space around them, and how many you can follow individually.

On Book, set the number of places on each group slot. Each participant books one place, and when the group is full it no longer appears on your page. If someone signs up by phone or at the end of a session, book their place yourself from your calendar.

Weekly groups and regulars

The benefits of sophrology come with practice, and a weekly group gives that practice a fixed place in the week. Keep the same day and time, for example Tuesday at 19:00, and repeat the slot on that weekday until the end of the term or season. Participants who come every week can book the next sessions in a few clicks, without an account, or you can book them yourself if they prefer.

Set the group size a little above the number of your regulars, so there's still room for a newcomer to try a session.

When a regular can't come

Ask participants who can't attend to cancel as early as they can, and say so in the description. When someone tells you, cancel their booking from your bookings list: the place is offered again on your page and a newcomer can take it. A short list of people who asked for a full group helps too; message them when a place frees up. Book doesn't send reminders, so a message the day before to the whole group can reduce empty mats.

Theme workshops

Theme workshops, such as sleep, stress at work or preparing for exams, bring people who wouldn't commit to a weekly group. Create each theme as its own service with a clear description: who it's for, what you'll work on, and whether it's a one-off or part of a short cycle. Open dates a few weeks ahead so people can plan, and share them where your audience is: local associations, schools, workplaces.

Choosing and renting a room

If you rent a room for your groups, the number of places also depends on what you pay for it. Rent by the hour or the evening, and set the group size so the session covers the rent with a margin. Say in the description where the room is, how to get in, and whether mats and blankets are provided or should be brought.

What to tell participants

  • comfortable clothes, and whether shoes stay at the door;
  • what to bring: a mat, a blanket, a bottle of water;
  • whether the group suits complete beginners;
  • that anyone with a specific health concern should mention it in the booking note.

The booking form asks for first name, last name, email and phone, plus an optional note. You receive an email for each new booking, with the note, so you know who's new before the session starts.

Sessions for companies

Companies sometimes book sophrology for their teams, during lunch breaks or as part of wellbeing days. The simplest is to agree the dates with your contact and book the sessions yourself; if the company prefers employees to sign up individually, open a dedicated service with the agreed places and send the link to your contact to share internally.

When a session has to move or be cancelled, do it from your bookings list and tell participants yourself, since Book doesn't email them when a booking changes. Book costs €5/month, everything included: unlimited bookings and services, no commission and no contract.

How many people should a sophrology group have?
It depends on your room and approach; six to twelve is a reasonable starting range. Set that number as the slot's places.
Can regulars book the whole term at once?
They book one place per session online, or you can book their places yourself for the term from your calendar.
Can a company's employees sign up themselves?
Yes. Open a dedicated service with the agreed places and give the link to your contact at the company.
