How independent midwives organise their week

Independent midwives follow people through a long stretch of time: pregnancy check-ups, birth preparation, home visits in the days after the birth, breastfeeding support, postnatal rehabilitation and, in many countries, routine gynaecological follow-up. Each of these has its own length, place and rhythm. Birth preparation often happens in small groups; postnatal visits happen at home; consultations take place at the practice.

Pregnant patients and new parents also have little time and energy for phone tag. Letting them book directly, at a time that suits them, is a real help on both sides.

One service per type of care

On Book, each type of care is a service with its own description and price, and you open slots for each at the length it takes. Where fees are set by your health system, use the description to explain it instead of an amount. Birth preparation classes can take several people: set the slot's capacity to the number of places and each parent books their own. Postnatal home visits can have their own slots on the days you do your rounds.
