The independent nurse's day
Independent and community nurses split their day between home rounds and time at the practice. Home visits — daily care, injections, dressings for patients who can't travel — are organised directly with patients and families, often weeks in advance. Practice hours are different: short, quick appointments for blood tests, injections, vaccinations, dressing changes or stitch removal, for patients who can come in.
Those practice slots are exactly what patients try to book by phone, while you're on the road or with a patient. Moving them online means patients book a precise time and you know who is coming.
Short practice slots
On Book, each type of care is a service with its own description, and you open slots for each at the length it takes: 10 minutes for a blood test or injection, 20 for a dressing. Where fees are set by your health system, explain them in the description instead of an amount. Use the description too for instructions, such as fasting before a blood test or bringing the prescription.
Home rounds can stay organised the way they are; you only open online what suits you.
