Booking in a psychotherapy practice

Psychotherapists work with different approaches — psychodynamic, CBT, systemic, humanistic, EMDR, hypnotherapy — but most share the same practice shape. An initial consultation to meet, understand the request and agree on a frame. Then regular sessions, often weekly, over months. Some approaches use longer sessions, and some therapists also run groups.

Some new clients search for a therapist at night or at the weekend, after having hesitated a long time. If the only way in is a phone number with a voicemail, some may never call. A booking page lets them take the first step when they're ready.

Sessions of different lengths

On Book, each type of session is a service with its own price and description, and you open slots for each at the length it takes: an hour for the initial consultation, 50 minutes for standard sessions, 90 minutes for extended work. Use the description to explain your approach and the practical frame (how cancellations work, how to reach you). You set the start and end of every slot, so the time between clients stays protected.

Groups and online sessions

  • Therapy or support groups: set a slot's capacity to the number of places; each participant books their own place.
  • Online sessions: a separate service with its own slots; send your usual video link after booking.
  • Regular clients: book their next sessions yourself from your calendar, and those slots are no longer offered online.
