The specialist's diary

Specialists in private practice — dermatologists, cardiologists, gynaecologists, rheumatologists, ENT doctors and many others — usually work with a mix of new patients, follow-ups and in-office procedures or examinations. New-patient demand is often higher than the time available, so the first free consultation can be weeks away. At the same time, cancellations happen, and a slot freed the day before is hard to refill by phone.
