How eye care appointments are booked
Optometrists run a steady flow of exams through the day, each in a darkened room with equipment where interruptions are unwelcome. Patients book for many reasons: a routine exam every year or two, new glasses, a first contact lens fitting, a check after a few weeks of wear, a child who struggles to see the board, dry eyes. Each of those appointments has a different length.
When patients call, they often don't know which appointment they need or how long it takes. A page that lists each one with its description and length lets them choose without a conversation.
Exams, fittings and checks
On Book, each appointment type is a service with its own price and description, and you open slots for each at the length it takes: 30 minutes for an exam, 45 for a lens fitting, 20 for a lens check. Use the description to say what to bring (current glasses, lens packaging, prescriptions) and whether patients should come without lenses. Patients pick the service, see its price and duration, then choose a free slot.
Practical set-up
- Weekly schedule: open your exam slots once and repeat them by day of the week.
- After-school slots: keep some for children's exams.
